Junaidu Abdullahi, widely known as Abusalma on TikTok, has been remanded in prison after posting a viral video calling for a mass protest over the severe economic hardship gripping the nation.

Abusalma, whose TikTok account boasts a significant following, posted the video last week, urging citizens to take to the streets in a peaceful protest against the ongoing economic crisis. The video quickly went viral, with many netizens expressing their support for his call to action.

However, the authorities did not take kindly to Abusalma‘s message. On [insert date], security agents reportedly arrested the TikToker and subsequently took him to Abuja. According to a relative, Mustapha Hamza, Abusalma was taken to Kurmawa prison in Kano, where he is currently being held.

The arrest and subsequent remand of Abusalma have sparked outrage among his supporters and human rights activists, who argue that the TikToker was exercising his right to freedom of expression. Amnesty International Nigeria has called for his immediate and unconditional release, stating that “the Nigerian authorities must respect the right to peaceful protest and freedom of expression.”

In response to the public outcry, the government has remained tight-lipped, with no official statement released regarding Abusalma‘s arrest or the charges against him. However, a source close to the matter revealed that the TikToker is suspected of inciting public unrest and disturbing the peace.

As the nation grapples with economic hardship, the arrest of Abusalma has ignited a heated debate about the limits of freedom of expression and the right to peaceful protest. Many citizens are now questioning whether the government is more concerned with silencing dissenting voices than addressing the root causes of the economic crisis.
