Peter Gotti was born on October 15, 1939, in The Bronx, New York, United States. He was raised by his parents, Fannie Gotti and John Gotti. He grew up alongside his two siblings, Gene Gotti and John Gotti.

Career

 Peter Gotti started working as an associate for the Gambino crime family in the 1960s, joining at age 21. 1988, at age 49, he was inducted as a made man.

John Gotti, the boss of the Gambino family, designated Peter as the caretaker of the Bergin Hunt and Fish Club and as a driver for him and his brother Gene.

By 1989, Peter was promoted to capo. However, John Gotti did not believe Peter had the ability to lead the crime family, leading to Peter’s nickname as “the Dumbest Don.”

When John Gotti Jr. received a life sentence in 1992, John Gotti asserted his prerogative to remain boss until his death or retirement, with John Jr. and Peter relaying his orders.

After John Gotti Jr. was sent to prison in 1999, federal prosecutors say Peter became the head of the Gambino organization. In 2002, just days before John Gotti’s death, Peter Gotti was indicted on federal racketeering charges.

During his trial, it was revealed he was having an affair, leading his wife to file for divorce. In 2003, he was convicted of extortion, money laundering, and racketeering and sentenced to 9 years and 4 months in prison. 

In 2004, he was convicted in a separate trial of racketeering charges related to extortion in the construction industry and conspiring to murder a government informant. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with a projected release date of September 10, 2031.
