Parson’s political career began in 2004 when he was first elected to represent the 133rd District in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was reelected in 2006 and 2008, during which time he chaired the House Rules Committee.

In 2016, Parson initially announced a run for Governor but ultimately opted to run for lieutenant governor instead, successfully defeating his Republican primary opponents and the Democratic candidate in the general election.

Following the resignation of Governor Eric Greitens in 2018, Parson was sworn in as the 57th Governor of Missouri, a position he has held since then.
