Despite their criminal activities, the Krays were raised in a Christian household and attended Wood Close School and Daniel Street School in Bethnal Green.

Career

Reg Kray were English gangsters or organized crime figures and identical twin brothers from Haggerston who were prominent from the late 1950s until their arrest in 1968.

Their gang, known as the Firm, was based in Bethnal Green, where the Kray twins lived. They were involved in murder, armed robbery, arson, protection rackets, gambling, and assaults.

At their peak in the 1960s, they gained a certain measure of celebrity status by mixing with prominent members of London society, being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on television.

However, their actions had a destructive and detrimental impact on the community, causing harm and fear among innocent individuals.

Their criminal activities were a blight on society and ultimately led to their imprisonment.

The notorious Kray twins, Reg and Ronnie, were arrested on 8 May 1968 and later convicted in 1969, thanks to the efforts of Detective Superintendent Leonard “Nipper” Read and his team of detectives.

Following their conviction, each brother was sentenced to life imprisonment. Ronnie, who was later deemed insane, was committed to Broadmoor Hospital in 1979 and remained there until his death on 17 March 1995.

Meanwhile, Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds in August 2000, only five weeks before he passed away from cancer.

Despite their notorious criminal activities, the Kray twins continue to be a subject of fascination and intrigue.

The Krays twins, Reg and Ron, were notorious criminals in London during the 1950s and 1960s. Their criminal records and dishonorable discharges from the army ended their boxing careers, leading them to turn to crime full-time.

This allowed them to acquire multiple clubs and properties, including Esmeralda’s Barn, which was sold to Reggie by Peter Rachman while Ronnie was in prison. The location of the club is now where the Berkeley Hotel stands.
