Daniel Podence was born in Oeiras, Lisbon, Portugal. He joined the youth system of Sporting CP shortly before his 10th birthday, having previously played for the neighboring club Belenenses. While still a junior, Podence made his senior debut for Sporting’s reserves in 2013, coming on as a late substitute in a Segunda Liga match.
Podence officially appeared for Sporting’s first team in 2014, starting a Taça da Liga match against Vitória de Guimarães. He was then loaned out to Moreirense for the 2016-17 season. He made his Primeira Liga debut that September and scored his first goal in the Portuguese top flight in October.
