Early Life and Education

Zak Bagans was born on April 5, 1977, in Washington, D.C. His parents are Nancy Knapp, an interior designer, and Larry Bagans. He has three siblings: his full sister, Meredith Bagans, and two half-siblings, Sky Bagans and Phil Bagans.

Bagans graduated from Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He later attended the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan, where he studied filmmaking. He is of mixed ethnicity, primarily of Italian and Hungarian descent, and was raised practising Christianity.

Zak Bagans began his journey in paranormal investigation in 2004 when he collaborated with Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin to produce a documentary-style film called Ghost Adventures. The documentary aired on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2007, paving the way for the Ghost Adventures series, which premiered on the Travel Channel in 2008. The series, now a long-running success, has aired for 19 seasons as of 2019.

In addition to Ghost Adventures, Bagans hosted a spin-off series, Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks (2014–2016), which explored the aftermath of the team’s investigations.
