Early Life And Education

Antón Álvarez Alfaro was born in Madrid, Spain, on July 16, 1990. He is the son of Antón Álvarez Muñoz, a former journalist, and Patricia Alfaro Águila-Real, a former preschool teacher. He has a younger sister named Carmen Álvarez Alfaro.

C. Tangana, whose real name is Antón Álvarez Alfaro, began his musical career in high school, rapping under the pseudonym Crema. In 2005, he gained recognition as Crema when his freestyle demos started to spread online.

He focused on rap music and released a seven-track EP titled Él Es Crema (2005), followed by two more EPs (Madrid Files and Septiembre) in 2006. After completing his baccalaureate, Álvarez studied philosophy at the Complutense University of Madrid.

In 2011, he formed the band Agorazein with a group of friends and released a work entitled “C. Tangana.” This was well-received and led to his adopting the stage name C. Tangana. The band’s debut album, Kind of Red, was released in Spanish by independent artists that year.



Between 2011 and 2012, Álvarez self-released two albums under the name C. Tangana: C. Tangana (2011) and LOVE’S (2012). His mainstream success in Spain came in 2016 with the release of singles like “Lo Hace Conmigo,” “Los Chikos de Madriz,” and “Antes de morirme,” followed by the hit “Mala Mujer,” which was later included in his debut studio album Ídolo (2017).

Tangana continued to explore hip-hop music on his mixtape Avida Dollars (2018), which spawned the top twenty single “Llorando en la Limo.” He also released several standalone singles, such as “Bien Duro,” “Booty,” and “Nunca Estoy,” which were commercially successful.

In 2021, Tangana released his second studio album, El Madrileño, which marked a shift towards flamenco and Latin music. The album broke records on streaming services and made Tangana the first Spanish artist to reach number one on the global new albums list. The entire tracklist was also in the top 25 of the Top 100 Songs in Spain.

Additionally, in July 2023, he composed an anthem for the 100th anniversary of the Galician football club Celta de Vigo, which he described as the most culturally significant piece of his career.
