In 1984, Kaliopi founded the band “Kaliopi” with Romeo Grill, recording their first songs at the request of Macedonian Radio. The band gained recognition, winning an award for “best interpretation” at the Festival Opatija in 1985.
Their debut album was released in 1986, followed by their successful second album “Rodjeni” in 1987. The band’s success included performing in festivals and television specials, as well as touring the Soviet Union.
Kaliopi returned as a solo artist in the 1990s, competing in Skopje Fest 1996. She also began composing for other artists and released her solo debut album “Oboi me” in 1999. In 2001, Kaliopi collaborated with producer Darko Dimitrov on a new album, which produced several hit singles. She participated in Skopje Fest 2002 as a composer and backing vocalist.
In 2003, Kaliopi released her third album “Ne mi go zemaj vremeto,” featuring duets with Esma Redžepova and Vasil Zafirchev. The album produced several radio hits, including “Za kogo postojam” and “Koga prokleto ti trebam.” In 2012, she achieved massive success with the song “Crno i belo,” which became a top-10 hit.
Kaliopi continued to release new music, with the single “Mojot Dom” in 2015, followed by “Poželi” and the acoustic ballad “Jutro.” That same year, she was selected to represent Macedonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song “Dona.” Despite a strong performance, she did not qualify for the final, finishing 11th in her semi-final.
