Jelena Rozga was born on August 23, 1977, in Split, SR Croatia, Yugoslavia. She is the daughter of Marija Rozga, a tailor at Jugoplastika, and Antonio Rozga.

Jelena grew up in Split, a city in the Dalmatia region of Croatia, and has an older sister named Julia. During her high school years, she attended II Gymnasium in Split.
