His father, Walter, was a scenic artist in the entertainment industry and a World War II Navy veteran, while his mother, Elizabeth, worked as a radiologist. Reid also has an older brother named Reggie.

Reid attended Glendale Community College before transferring to Brigham Young University (BYU), where he played college football from 1979 to 1981.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in professional leadership in physical education and athletics from BYU.

While at BYU, Reid began to develop his coaching mindset, learning the ins and outs of football and playing offensive linemen.

After completing his education, Reid began his coaching career in 1982 as a graduate assistant at BYU.

His time as a coach at BYU marked the beginning of a long and successful career in football. Reid is of white ethnicity and has practised Christianity as his religion.

Career

Andy Reid’s journey to becoming one of the NFL’s most successful coaches began at Glendale Community College in California, where he played offensive tackle.

Although he initially planned to transfer to Stanford, a knee injury altered his path. While at BYU, he became teammates with notable players such as Jim McMahon and Tom Holmoe.

Although he didn’t play much, Reid was known for his analytical approach, closely studying his coaches.

His hard work and dedication to learning earned him a graduate assistant role at BYU in 1982, marking the start of his coaching career.

Reid’s coaching journey progressed as he took on various roles in college football before entering the NFL in 1992 with the Green Bay Packers. Under head coach Mike Holmgren, Reid contributed to the Packers’ Super Bowl XXXI victory in 1997.

This success led to his opportunity as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1999. The Eagles were struggling at the time, but Reid quickly turned the franchise around.

Over the next 14 years, he guided the team to nine playoff appearances, six division titles, and an NFC Championship, ultimately leading them to Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005, where they lost to the New England Patriots.

Despite his successes, Reid’s time with the Eagles ended in 2012 after a disappointing 4-12 season.

However, Reid’s coaching acumen was far from diminished, and in 2013, he took over the Kansas City Chiefs.

His impact was immediate, as he led the team to their first playoff victory in over two decades. Under Reid, the Chiefs became perennial postseason contenders, claiming multiple division titles and establishing themselves as one of the league’s top teams.

During his 11 seasons with the Chiefs, Reid transformed the franchise into a powerhouse. He led the Chiefs to 10 playoff appearances, eight consecutive division titles, and six consecutive AFC Championship Games.

His tenure was highlighted in Super Bowl LIV (2020) when the Chiefs won their first championship in 50 years. Reid’s innovative offensive strategies and ability to develop talent were key to the team’s resurgence.

He continued to achieve success, guiding the Chiefs to further Super Bowl appearances and securing additional titles in Super Bowl LV (2022) and LVII (2023).

As of the end of the 2023 season, Reid has accumulated a regular-season record of 258-144-1 and a playoff record of 26-16, making him one of the most accomplished coaches in NFL history.

His three Super Bowl victories solidify his legacy as a coaching legend. Reid’s ability to adapt, innovate, and lead his teams to success under pressure has firmly established him as one of the NFL’s all-time greats.
