Career

Robert Kraft began his professional career in 1968 with the Rand-Whitney Group, a packaging company run by his father-in-law.

He gained control of the company through a leveraged buyout and eventually became the chairman. In 1972, Kraft founded International Forest Products, one of the largest privately held paper and packaging companies in the U.S.

In 1974, Kraft also bought the Boston Lobsters, a World TeamTennis franchise, which became prosperous due to the signing of top players. However, the franchise folded in 1978 as the league itself collapsed.

Kraft’s passion for sports led him to purchase the New England Patriots in 1994 for $172 million. As an avid fan since their AFL days, he transformed the team into one of the NFL’s most successful franchises, winning six Super Bowl titles under his leadership.

He also played a crucial role in developing Gillette Stadium, which opened in 2002 as a privately financed facility, solidifying the Patriots’ financial stability.

1996, Kraft expanded his sports portfolio by founding the New England Revolution, a Major League Soccer team. He also briefly owned the San Jose Clash (now Earthquakes) from 1998 to 2000.

Additionally, Kraft entered the esports industry in 2017 by purchasing the Boston Uprising, a team in the Overwatch League. The Uprising performed well in their inaugural season, finishing third in the league.

Kraft and his family have been generous philanthropists, donating hundreds of millions of dollars to causes related to education, healthcare, youth sports, and American and Israeli initiatives.

They have supported institutions such as Columbia University, Harvard Business School, and Boston College, as well as local organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston.
