He owns the Jacksonville Jaguars in the National Football League (NFL) and Fulham F.C. in the Premier League.

Khan also co-owns All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a professional wrestling promotion, alongside his son, Tony Khan. Additionally, he owns Flex-N-Gate, a prominent American supplier of motor vehicle components.

Early Life And Education

Shahid Rafiq Khan was born on July 18, 1950, in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan.

His father, Rafiq Khan, owned a shop selling survey and drawing equipment, while his mother was a mathematics professor. Khan also had a brother, Tariq Rafiq Khan, who sadly passed away in his twenties.

Khan pursued higher education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he became a Beta Theta Pi fraternity member.

He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering. He is of Pakistani ethnicity, and Khan identifies as a Muslim.

Career

Shahid Khan began his career at Flex-N-Gate Corporation while attending the University of Illinois. After graduating, he became the engineering director for the company. In 1978, he founded his own business, Bumper Works, which specialized in car bumpers for pickup trucks.

The following year, Khan purchased Flex-N-Gate from his former employer, Charles Gleason Butzow, and merged it with his new company.

Under his leadership, Flex-N-Gate grew significantly, eventually becoming a key supplier for major automakers like Toyota.



Khan’s growth strategy for Flex-N-Gate paid off, as the company became Toyota’s sole supplier in the U.S. by 1989. Over time, the company expanded, and by 2010, it generated nearly $2 billion in sales.

By 2020, its revenue had soared to $8.9 billion, and Flex-N-Gate had 25,000 employees across 69 plants worldwide.

Despite some controversies, such as a fine in 2012 for health violations, Flex-N-Gate remains a leading player in the automotive manufacturing industry.

Khan’s sports ventures began with an attempt to purchase the St. Louis Rams in 2010. Though he was initially in talks to acquire the team, the sale ultimately fell through when Stan Kroenke matched his bid.

In 2011, Khan successfully purchased the Jacksonville Jaguars for $770 million, becoming the first ethnic minority owner of an NFL team. NFL owners approved the deal and finalized the sale in January 2012.

In addition to his NFL involvement, Khan expanded into soccer and professional wrestling. In 2013, he purchased Fulham F.C., a Premier League soccer club, for an undisclosed price.

In 2019, he and his son, Tony Khan, co-founded All Elite Wrestling (AEW), a professional wrestling promotion. Khan has also been involved with Black News Channel, where he held a majority stake until the network’s closure.
