
Nollywood and Uniport Mourn the Passing of ‘Isakaba’ Star Columbus Irisoanga
The Nigerian entertainment and academic communities are grieving the loss of Columbus Irisanga, a veteran actor and esteemed lecturer who passed away earlier today.
Irisoanga, best known for his unforgettable role as Igbudu in the 2001 Nollywood blockbuster Isakaba, was not only a celebrated figure in the film industry but also a respected senior lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport).

Born in Okrika, Rivers State, Irisoanga was a proud alumnus of Uniport, where he obtained his bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees. His transition between the screen and the classroom showcased his deep passion for both acting and education, shaping the next generation of Nigerian performers and scholars.
News of his passing was shared by veteran actress Hilda Dokubo, who took to Instagram to express her grief. She wrote:
“Our uncle Coli @colu_mbusirisoanga has gone to be with the Lord. Ikoli eh dein na mu. There can’t be a shortage of Angels in heaven that the few here are called home like this na! This one is heavy on Uniport, Rivers State, Nollywood.”
Her heartfelt words reflect the profound impact Irisoanga had, not just as an actor but as a mentor and educator, particularly within the University of Port Harcourt community.
