Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has clarified that his recent meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta was a courtesy call and not linked to political ambitions for the 2027 elections.

Atiku, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, addressed journalists after a two-hour private meeting with Obasanjo, dispelling rumors of political motivations.

It is a courtesy visit. I’m not going to talk about 2027 or politics. I’m not here because of 2027,” Atiku stated firmly, emphasizing the non-political nature of the visit.

The meeting, which took place at Obasanjo’s residence, has sparked speculation in political circles, especially given the historical context of their relationship and Atiku’s previous political engagements. However, the former vice president reiterated that the visit was purely a gesture of respect and not tied to any electoral agenda.

Atiku’s comments come as political discussions around the 2027 elections are beginning to gain traction, with various political figures positioning themselves for future contests. Despite this, Atiku urged the public and media to focus on the present rather than speculating about future political maneuvers.

Further details about the discussions during the private meeting were not disclosed, as both leaders maintained the confidentiality of their conversation.
