Early Life and Education

Scott Perry was born on May 27, 1962, in San Diego, California, to Cecile Lenig and Jim Perry. His grandparents were Colombian immigrants. His mother, a flight attendant, moved with him and his brother to south-central Pennsylvania after leaving an abusive relationship with his father when Scott was seven.

The family faced financial challenges, relying on public assistance for several years. He was raised in a simple home that initially had no electricity and plumbing. When he was eleven years old, his mother married his stepfather, Daniel Chimel, who was an airplane pilot and air traffic controller.

Perry graduated from Northern High School in Dillsburg in 1980 and Cumberland-Perry Vo-Tech School.

He put himself through college while working full-time, earning an associate’s degree from Harrisburg Area Community College and a B.S. in business administration and management from Pennsylvania State University in 1991.
