His parents were Chief Abibatu Mogaji (mother) and Chief Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu (father). He has siblings, but their names and details are not widely known.
He did his initial formal education at St. John’s Primary School, Aroloya, Lagos, and Children’s Home School in Ibadan, South West of Nigeria.
After that, Bola Tinubu was sent to study at Richard J. Daley College in Chicago, Illinois, and then at Chicago State University to further his education.
He graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Career
Before his return to Nigeria, Bola Tinubu worked with Top firms like Deloitte, Arthur Anderson, and GTE Services Corporation in the US. After his return to Nigeria in 1983, he secured a job with Mobil Oil, Nigeria, where he later rose to the position of an executive in the company.
However, he began his political career in 1992, serving as the senator representing the Lagos West constituency in the short-lived Third Republic of Nigeria. After the annulment of the June 12 election, Bola Tinubu founded the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) with some other well-meaning Nigerians, a group poised with the restoration of democracy and recognition of the 12 June results.
In 1994, Bola Tinubu fled Nigeria amidst arrests and torture and later returned in 1998 after Sani Abacha‘s death.
In 1999, Bola Tinubu contested and won the election for the office of the governor of Lagos state under the umbrella of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
In April 2003, he was re-elected for the second term and served until 2007. Bola Tinubu is currently the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party under the President Muhammadu Buhari led-government.
Nigerian Presidency
Bola Ahmed Tinubu took the presidential stage on May 29, 2023, with a global nod of legitimacy. The inauguration ceremony at Eagle Square in Abuja marked a symbolic power transfer from his predecessor, Buhari.
In a bold move, Tinubu abolished the fuel subsidy during his inaugural address, causing a flurry of reactions. The removal, praised by the World Bank, signaled a significant fiscal shift. Tinubu‘s financial maneuvers continued as he suspended the central bank governor, Godwin Emefiele, and appointed a new acting governor, Folashodun Adebisi.
As subsidies evaporated, foreign exchange restrictions lifted, and the national currency took a nosedive. Tinubu‘s financial acrobatics, rivaling the theatrics of the ’86 SAP regime, sought to reinvent Nigeria’s economic script. The stage was set with the inauguration of the National Economic Council, a council of wizards ready to advise the President, with Wale Edun as the monetary policy czar.
In a dramatic shuffle, Tinubu appointed key players — Senator George Akume, the maestro behind government affairs, and Femi Gbajabiamila, the chief orchestrator of presidential staff. The suspension of Abdulrasheed Bawa, head of EFCC, added a noir twist as Bawa had previously pried into Tinubu‘s affairs.
In a radical departure, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was declared the National Security Adviser, a nod to civilian control in a military-dominated chessboard. The purge of over a hundred major generals further solidified Tinubu‘s grip on a reshaped security landscape.
The drama unfolded with the suspension of EFCC chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, adding intrigue to an already complex narrative. Tinubu‘s diplomatic debut took him to Paris and London, while the formation of his cabinet and the call for military intervention in Niger added layers of suspense to the unfolding political script. As the curtains rise on Tinubu‘s presidency, Nigeria anticipates the nuanced strokes of his leadership.
Personal Life
Bola Tinubu is married to Oluremi Tinubu, who is the current senator of the Lagos Central Senatorial District. The marriage is blessed with four children, but one is late.

His children are Seyi Tinubu, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, Jide Tinubu, and Abibat Tinubu.
