On October 14, 1967, Stephen A. Smith was born in The Bronx, New York, USA.

On his father’s side, he has a half-brother. His parents are from the US Virgin Islands’ Saint Thomas.

Stephen A. Smith began his journalism career at the Winston-Salem Journal, Greensboro News and Record, and the New York Daily News. Since 1994, he has worked as a reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

He started off as an NBA columnist with the Philadelphia 76ers, then transitioned to a general sports columnist.

Stephen A. Smith would no longer write articles and would instead be downgraded to the rank of general assignment reporter, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer on August 23, 2007.

In 2008, The Philadelphia Inquirer discontinued its relationship with Stephen A. Smith, coinciding with the debut of Smith‘s site, stephena.com.

Stephen A. Smith returned to the Philadelphia Inquirer in February 2010 after receiving an arbitrator’s order to reinstate him, but only if he agreed to remove all of his political opinions from his website and cable news shows.
