Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg (born June 5, 1971) is an American actor, producer, entrepreneur, and former rapper. As a musician, he has collaborated with record labels like Interscope and Atlantic Records. 

Formerly known by the stage name Marky Mark, he released two albums, Music for the People and Gotta Believe, during his short-lived music career.

Since he starred in his debut film, Renaissance Man, in 1994, Mark Wahlberg has grown into one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood.

Early Life

Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg was born on the 5th of June 1971. He comes from a large household of eleven. His parents are Donald Wahlberg and Alma Wahlberg. 

He has eight siblings and is the youngest child of the family. His older brothers, Robert Wahlberg and Donnie Wahlberg, are actors. Donnie Wahlberg is also a singer. His siblings are Donnie Wahlberg, Paul Wahlberg, Jim Wahlberg, Scott Wahlberg, Robert Wahlberg, Debbie Wahlberg, Arthur Wahlberg, Buddy Wahlberg, Tracey Wahlberg, Donna Wahlberg, and Michelle Wahlberg. He has Irish, English, and French-Canadian ancestry. He is an uncle to Jeff Wahlberg.

Mark Wahlberg was born and raised in the Dorchester neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts. His father, Donald Wahlberg, was a US Army Veteran of the Korean war. Donald Wahlberg also worked as a delivery truck driver. At the same time, his mother, Alma Wahlberg, was a bank clerk and nurse’s aide.

Mark Wahlberg‘s journey into the entertainment world began with the music industry. He was a member of the music group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. The group managed to release two studio albums before disbanding. The first album, Music For The People, was released in 1991. While the second full-length project, You Gotta Believe, was dropped in 1992. 

Mark Wahlberg decided to enter into the movie business as an actor. He secured his debut acting role in the 1994 film Renaissance Men. He played a supporting role in the movie Fear, which was released in 1996. However, until he portrayed porn actor Dirk Diggler in Boogie Nights, he received positive reviews from critics. The film was released in 1997. He received similar comments for his work in Three Kings and Four Brothers. 

By the early 2000s, he had grown in the industry and was now cast in big-budget movies. He appeared in films such as The Perfect Storm (2000), Planet of the Apes (2001), The Italian Job (2003), The Yards (2000), I Heart Huckabees (2004), and The Departed (2006).
