Red Axes is an Israeli electronic and indie music duo formed in 2010 by Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi.

History

Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi first met and began writing songs together when they were just 14 years old. Their musical journey began in their teenage years, and three years later, they formed Red Cotton.

This four-member psychedelic rock band also included Udi Naor and Yovav, Arzi‘s brother.

After releasing their debut album, “Memory Card,” in 2006, the band planned to travel to London but only made it as far as Amsterdam.

The band eventually disbanded, but Arzi and Sadovnik decided to stay in Amsterdam and tour Europe, expanding their musical horizons. During this time, they also started a rave party brand in Tel Aviv called “Break It!“.

In 2010, Red Axes released their first EP, marking the official beginning of their career as a duo. Over the years, they have released music on various labels, including Crosstown Rebels, Hivern Discs, Permanent Vacation, Correspondent, Life and Death, Dark Entries, Multi Culti, and I’m a Cliche.

Their first full-length album, “Ballad of the Ice,” was released in 2014 under the I’m a Cliche label. This album showcased their vocal and guitar-heavy sound, featuring collaborations with Abrão and a cover of Bauhaus’ “Bela Lugosi’s Dead.

The release of this album catapulted them into the international music scene, gaining recognition both on dancefloors and in music charts worldwide.

In 2016, Red Axes established their record label named, Garzen Records, which became a platform for their creativity and experimentation.

They released their second album, “The Beach Goths,” in collaboration with the extended Garzen family. This album aimed to create a “new psychedelic cosmic adventure” for their fans, incorporating elements of various genres and showcasing their innovation and versatility as musicians.

Aside from producing music, Red Axes is known for its captivating live performances and DJ sets. They have performed at renowned venues and festivals such as Sonar, Burning Man, Coachella, Berghein/Panorama Bar, Glastonbury, Dekmantel, and many more.

Awards

In 2016, Red Axes received the “ACUM” Prize from the Israeli Copyrights Association for exceptional achievements in electronic music.

They also earned recognition in Resident Advisor’s Top 100 Live Acts of 2016, ranking at No. 35. Their track “Sun My Sweet Sun” was featured on Resident Advisor’s Top 50 Tracks of 2016, placing at No. 26.

Additionally, they were listed as No. 7 on the Beatport Top 10 Indie dance – Nu Disco Artists of 2016.

Their music has resonated with audiences and critics alike, with tracks like “Sun My Sweet Sun” garnering attention for its unique flute melody and innovative sound.
