Early Life & Education
Despite his Kwara ancestry, Adebayo ‘Oga Bello’ Salami was born on May 9, 1952, in Lagos State. He received both his elementary and secondary schooling.
He is of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria and was born to Yoruba parents. Adebayo Salami has always been a lover of the movie industry and has always tried out plays in his childhood days.

Adebayo ‘Oga Bello’ Salami is one of Nigeria’s most well-known Yoruba performers, with a long and illustrious career. He has worked in the film industry for over 50 years and has been in over 70 films.
He started his performing career in 1964 with the Young Concert Party, which was led by Ojo Ladipo, better known as Baba Mero. After a few years, the organization officially changed its name to Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group and then to Awada Kerikeri Theatre Group.
Following the death of Ojo Ladipo in 1978, Adebayo Salami assumed the role of group leader, thrusting him into the spotlight.
Adebayo Salami appeared in Ajani Ogun, the first Yoruba film, in which the late Adeyemi Afolayan, the father of Kunle Afolayan and Gabriel Afolayan, plays the principal role. In addition, he appeared in Adeyemi Afolayan‘s film Kadara (Ade love). With the stage name Oga Bello, he later appeared in the popular Nigerian comic series Comedy half-hour.
In 1985, Adebayo ‘Oga Bello’ Salami produced his debut film, Ogun Ajaye, from the Awada Kerikeri stable. He has since produced, directed, and starred in various Yoruba films since 1985.
Adebayo Salami was one of the founding members of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners and served as its president.
