He is most known for his portrayal of Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles in the FX comedy-drama series, Atlanta (2016–present).

Due to this, he was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.

For part of his childhood, Brian Tyree Henry was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Willow Dean Kearse, his mother, was an educator and his father was in the military.

In the early 2000s, Brian Tyree Henry was a business major turned actor at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and obtained his master’s degree from Yale School of Drama.

Career

Brian Tyree Henry made his big-screen debut in 2018 with appearances in Steve McQueen‘s heist picture, Widows, Barry Jenkins‘ love drama, If Beale Street Could Talk, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

He also starred in Todd PhillipsJoker (2019), Adam Wingard‘s Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), Joe Wright‘s The Woman in the Window (2021), and Chloé Zhao‘s Eternals (all 2021).

Brian Tyree Henry has also performed on stage, debuting in the Shakespeare in the Park production of Romeo and Juliet (2007) and later playing in several plays at the Public Theatre before joining the original Broadway cast of The Book of Mormon (2011).

He made his off-Broadway debut in the musical, The Fortress of Solitude in 2014. He was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in Kenneth Lonergan‘s play, Lobby Hero on Broadway in 2018.

Brian Tyree Henry made his cinematic debut in the dystopian thriller, Hotel Artemis, the heist picture Widows, the romantic drama film, If Beale Street Could Talk, and the animated superhero blockbuster, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, all of which he starred in 2018.

In 2019, he appeared in the psychological thrillers, Joker and Don’t Let Go including the horror picture, Child’s Play, which is a remake of the 1988 film of the same name.

In 2021, Brian Tyree Henry starred with Millie Bobby Brown and Julian Dennison in Godzilla vs. Kong as Bernie Hayes. He’ll also play Phastos in Marvel Studios’ Eternals, which will be released in soon.
