Hugh Michael Jackman was born on October 12, 1968, in Sydney, New South Wales, to parents Grace McNeil (née Greenwood) and Cambridge-educated accountant Christopher John Jackman.

His parents were English and had arrived in Australia in 1967 as part of the “Ten Pound Poms” immigration policy. Jackman has four older siblings and is the second of his parents’ children born in Australia.

He also has a younger half-sister through his mother’s remarriage. His parents split when he was eight. After finishing primary school at Pymble Public School, Jackman attended the all-boys Knox Grammar School on Sydney’s Upper North Shore.
