Jean-Claude Camille François Van Varenberg (born 18 October 1960), addressed as Jean-Claude Van Damme, is a celebrated actor, martial artist, filmmaker, and fight choreographer from Belgium.
The films starring him inspired innumerable martial artists worldwide. He had previously popularized and utilized these martial arts styles in his films before Muay Thai or kickboxing gained their position in the world of martial arts. Even though they didn’t have particularly large budgets, movies like Kickboxer and Bloodspot went on to gross millions of dollars worldwide. They unquestionably inspired a generation of performers and martial artists.
Many of his friends and supporters struggled to comprehend how a skinny, frail youngster could develop into a Hollywood martial arts sensation and finally come to be known as “Muscles from Brussels.” From an early age, this Belgian superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme trained in martial arts before landing a job as a nightclub bouncer.
Here, he received his first acting opportunity in the hitchhiking film Missing in Action, which served as his gateway to Hollywood. He immediately started signing more film contracts, but despite his fame soaring, the earlier contracts and commitments he had made to several low-budget movies slowed the rate of his rise in Hollywood.
Many martial arts actors and aficionados have tried to emulate his signature 360-degree leaping karate kick.
