For over a year, he was misdiagnosed with malaria, typhoid, and pneumonia, and the medications caused his kidneys to fail. When he couldn’t afford kidney dialysis treatment, he had to beg for help. 

Leo Mezie‘s colleagues, fans, and Apostle Johnson Suleman came to his aid, and funds were raised for his treatment, which included a kidney transplant. Leo Mezie‘s kidney problem resurfaced in 2019. He was admitted to a hospital in Lagos. Leo Mezie died on Saturday, May 14, 2022, after recovering from a kidney transplant.
