There, he worked on his thesis focused on James Joyce’s Ulysses. Gonzalez’s diverse academic background reflects his intellectual curiosity and commitment to both literature and the arts. He is of Mexican descent, Gonzalez has kept his personal religious beliefs private.

Career

Nicholas Gonzalez began his acting career in the late 1990s with small roles in television series such as Dharma & Greg (ABC) and One World (NBC). In 1999, he gained attention for his role as Andy, a gay yuppie, in MTV’s Undressed, where he appeared in six episodes.

His early career also saw him in notable TV movies, including portraying Fidel Castro’s son in the Lifetime movie My Little Assassin. Gonzalez’s breakthrough came in 2000, when he starred in Showtime’s Resurrection Blvd., portraying Alex Santiago, a pre-med student turned professional boxer. His performance was widely praised, and the success of the show led to its extension as a regular weekly series.

While filming Undressed, Gonzalez learned about the Showtime project Resurrection Blvd., which centered on a Latino family in East Los Angeles. Despite initial scheduling conflicts, Gonzalez was later called in for auditions and ultimately secured the role of Alex.

His portrayal of Alex, a character balancing academics and his boxing aspirations, was praised for its intelligence and passion. Resurrection Blvd. (2000-2002) earned critical acclaim and became an important platform for Gonzalez to showcase his acting talent.

In addition to this role, he also appeared in The Princess and the Barrio Boy (2001), where he played Sol Torres, and made his feature film debut in Scenes of the Crime (2001).

Throughout the 2000s, Gonzalez continued to build his career, taking on a variety of roles in both television and film. He appeared in series like The O.C., Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Ghost Whisperer, and Grey’s Anatomy, and also had recurring roles in Melrose Place and Off the Map.
