Though he appeared in various films, Rakesh primarily starred in women-oriented stories, with notable films like Paraya Dhan (1971) alongside Hema Malini and Aankh Micholi (1973) with Bharati. His few successful solo hero films include Aankhon Aankhon Mein (1972) with Rakhee and Shubh Kaamna (1983) with Rati Agnihotri.

He also starred in several multi-star cast films, such as Khandaan (1979) and Neeyat (1980), often in supporting roles to established stars like Rajesh Khanna and Jeetendra. In 1980, Rakesh set up his own production company, Filmkraft, and ventured into film production.

His first production, Aap Ke Deewane (1980), was a commercial failure, but his subsequent film, Kaamchor (1982), became a hit, mainly due to its music and Jaya Prada’s performance. His directorial debut came with Khoon Bhari Maang (1988), a revenge thriller starring Rekha, which was a major success and marked a turning point in his career.

Rakesh continued to direct successful films, including Khel (1992) and King Uncle (1993), before embarking on his most iconic project, Karan Arjun (1995), a melodramatic action thriller starring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Rakesh Roshan’s production ventures also included Krazzy 4 (2008), a comedy thriller that failed at the box office, and Kaabil (2017), which starred Hrithik alongside Yami Gautam. Despite mixed reviews, Kaabil was an average grosser.

Looking ahead, Rakesh is set to direct Krrish 4, with Hrithik and Priyanka Chopra reprising their roles. However, the film’s production has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through his career, Rakesh has solidified his place in Bollywood history as a versatile and successful filmmaker.
