Bedelia was born in the Manhattan neighborhood of New York City, the daughter of writer and editor Marian Ethel and 50-year-old public relations specialist Philip Harley Culkin. When she was born, her family lived in “a cold-water tenement flat” since her father’s business had gone bankrupt. Her mother passed away shortly after the passing of her father, who “always had ulcers” when she was 14 years old. Two brothers, one of whom is the actor Kit Culkin, and a sister named Candice Culkin, make up her family. She is Macaulay Culkin, Kieran Culkin, and Rory Culkin‘s aunt.
Bedelia studied dance at the School of American Dance when she was younger. She obtained acting training at HB Studio.
Career
Bedelia studied ballet and The Nutcracker and performed in a few shows with the New York City Ballet before beginning her acting career. She only appeared as Clara in one dancing scene in the George Balanchine Nutcracker for Playhouse 90 on television in 1958. From 1961 through 1967, Bedelia portrayed Sandy Porter regularly in the CBS soap opera Love of Life. She also played on Broadway, where she made her stage debut as Patty Duke’s sidekick in Isle of Children in 1962. In 1966, she won a Theatre World Award for her work as the lead in My Sweet Charlie.
When Bedelia was younger, she studied dance at the School of American Dancing. She attended HB Studio for acting training.

On April 24, 1969, screenwriter Ken Luber and Bedelia exchanged vows. Before divorcing in 1980, the couple gave birth to two boys, Uri (born in 1970) and Jonah (born in 1976). She briefly married the dramatist and musician Jay Telfer before getting hitched to actor Michael MacRae in 1995.
