Connie Inge-Lise Nielsen was born on July 3, 1965, in Frederikshavn, Denmark. She grew up in a family with her father, Bent Nielsen, a bus driver, and her mother, Laila Inge-Alise Matzigkeit, an insurance clerk who also had a passion for acting and writing musical reviews.

Nielsen has three siblings: Søs Nielsen, Bent Nielsen, and Ulrich Nielsen.

While details about her formal education are not widely known, Nielsen is reported to have studied at a drama school in Rome, Italy.

Connie Nielsen began her acting career in the 1980s, working in European films and television. She debuted her feature film in 1984 with the French cinema Par où t’es rentré? On t’a pas vu sortir.

She later appeared in the Italian mini-series Colletti Bianchi (1988) and the films Vacanze di Natale ’91 (1991) and Le Paradis Absolument (1993). Nielsen moved to the United States in the mid-1990s and gained recognition in the 1997 film The Devil’s Advocate, starring alongside Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves.
