Franca Obianuju Brown (born May 17, 1967) is a veteran Nollywood actress, producer, interior decorator, lawyer, entrepreneur and television personality.
She is especially famous for her role as “Mama Efe” in a popular television soap opera titled “Behind the Clouds”, which was shot in the late 80s. She is also acknowledged for acting in popular television soap operas such as “Behind the Buka” and “River Between,” which later won her an award at NIFEST in the late 80s.
Franca Brown is known by most film enthusiasts for playing the role of a wicked stepmother in movies. She received the City People Movie Special Recognition Award in 2016, held at the City People Entertainment Awards.

Early Life
Franca Brown was born on 17 May 1967 in Onitsha, Anambra State, in the southeastern part of Nigeria.
She lost her father at a very tender age and thus was under the custody of her uncle Eddy Brown and his wife, who groomed and trained her until adulthood, when she completed her education.
Her uncle, Eddy Brown and his wife were lawyers and active legal practitioners. During an interview with the media, she disclosed that her father died of a heart attack when she was very young.
Education
Franca Brown began her primary education at St. Mary’s Primary School in Onitsha, Anambra State. She moved to Abia State, where she completed her primary school education at St. Maria’s Primary School located in Aba and obtained her First School Leaving Certificate.
For her secondary school education, Franca Brown moved to Niger State, located in Northern Nigeria, to Federal Government Girls College in New Bussa, Niger State, where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate.
Furthermore, in a bid to obtain a B.Sc. degree, Franca Brown applied at the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State and was accepted and eventually graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Law.
Then she pursued a second degree and applied to the University of Jos in Plateau State, where she was accepted and eventually graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre Arts and a master’s degree in Law.
Career
Franca Brown‘s acting career received recognition from her role in a TV series titled “Behind The Clouds”, although she had made two cameo appearances. Before featuring in “Behind The Clouds”, a TV soap opera series, she had failed to establish herself in the Nigerian movie industry and took acting roles mainly in short stage plays.
On one of such stage plays called “Swam Karagbe”, written by Iyorchia Ayu, three Nigerian talent scouts, namely Peter Igho, Matt Dadzie, and Ene Oloja, were amongst the audience searching for new talents to feature in a TV movie series.
After the stage play had been concluded, Franca Brown revealed in an interview that she was approached by the three talent scouts and was asked to come for an audition, which she eventually did. She was given the role of Mama Nosa in a TV soap opera series titled “Behind The Clouds”.
Franca Brown is also a movie producer and director and has produced and directed a movie titled “Women At Large,” in which she was also featured.
She is one of the pioneers of the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) and contributed immensely to the growth of Nollywood in Nigeria. She joined the Nigerian movie industry (Nollywood) in the late 80s when Nollywood was still in the formative age and has acted in several Nollywood movies since then.
Franca Brown is also a Nollywood movie producer and has produced several Nollywood movies in Nigeria. Besides the movie business, Franca Brown is also involved in other businesses such as contract work, buying and selling and interior decoration.
