Kiran Thakar Singh Sandhurst was born on June 14, 1952, in Bangalore, Mysore State, India, to Thakar Singh Sandhu and Diljit Kaur. She has one brother and two sisters.
Her brother, Amardeep Singh Sandhu, was an artist but sadly passed away in 2003. Among her sisters, Kanwal Thakar Kaur is renowned for being an Arjuna Award-winning badminton player, while her other sister is Sharanjit Kaur Sandhu.
