Rita Edochie was born on April 16, 1964, in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria, and will turn 60. She is the second child of Mr and Mrs Okwudili, who were traders.

She has a brother named Augustine Okwudili and a sister named Nnoyelum Okwudili Odogwu, who passed away in 2015. She is from the Igbo tribe and precisely from Anambra State, the Southeast of Nigeria.

She attended St John’s Primary School and All Saints Secondary School in Onitsha, where she completed her primary and secondary education.

She then proceeded to Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Communication.

She also claimed that the pastor was her spiritual father and mentor and that she had nothing to do with him romantically.

In 2020, she was criticized for refusing to forgive a young comedian, Ada Jesus, who had allegedly insulted her and her pastor, David Ibiyeomie, on social media.

Ada Jesus was diagnosed with kidney disease and sought forgiveness from Rita Edochie and the pastor. Still, Rita Edochie initially rejected her apology and said that she would die of her illness.

She later changed her mind and forgave her after the public and some celebrities pressured her. Ada Jesus eventually died of her illness in April 2021.

In 2021, she was slammed for supporting the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, whom the Nigerian government arrested for treason and terrorism. She posted a video on her Instagram page, praying for his release and calling him a prophet.
