Sanaya Irani was born into a Zoroastrian family on September 17, 1983, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

She is the daughter of Sarosh Irani and Sandra Irani and has one sibling, a brother. She completed her early education at The Lawrence School, Lovedale, a prestigious boarding school in Ooty, where she studied for seven years.
