Early Life And Education

Bola Are was born on October 1, 1954, in Erio, Western Region, British Nigeria (now Ekiti State, Nigeria). She is the daughter of Elder Babayomi and Mrs. T.A. Babayomi. The media is unaware of any siblings she may have grown up with.

Her primary education began at Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Primary School in her hometown, and her secondary education was at Christ Apostolic Church Grammar School in Efon Alaye, Ekiti State. She then obtained a diploma in accounting from The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

In July 1985, Are was awarded an honorary doctorate in Music from St. John’s University. Bola Are is of Yoruba ethnicity and practices Christianity as her religion.

Career

Bola Are‘s journey in music began at the tender age of two when she discovered her innate talent for singing. Even at a young age, she knew that her calling was to serve the Lord, and this conviction only grew stronger as she grew older.

Determined to follow her passion for ministry, Bola founded the Bola and Her Spiritual Singers band on June 26, 1973, marking the start of her illustrious musical career.

In August 1977, Bola released her debut album, “Baba Ku Ise,” the first of over 70 albums she would create throughout her prolific career. Her music is characterized by its powerful vocals, inspirational lyrics, and a strong spiritual message that has resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.

Beyond her musical achievements, Bola Are is also a dedicated educator and philanthropist. 1990, she founded the Recording Studio and School of Gospel Music International, a platform to train and mentor aspiring gospel musicians.



Additionally, she established the Bola Are Gospel Foundation International in 1995 to cater to the needs of the less privileged in Nigeria.

Personal Life

Bola Are is currently single and was previously married to the late Pastor J.O. Are in 1977. Following her husband’s tragic passing, Bola decided not to remarry, instead choosing to dedicate her life fully to her ministry and musical pursuits.

Together, Bola and Pastor J.O. Are raised several children, including their daughter Yetunde Are, who has also gained recognition as a talented gospel singer.
