Early Life & Career

The musician was born in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, to parents Brad and Angie Simpson. The boy had two younger brothers and sisters. Cody Simpson has a sister named Alli and a brother named Tom. His primary education was received at All Saints Anglican School. He was a gifted swimmer who won two gold medals at the Queensland Swimming Championships in 2009 under the tutelage of Miami Swimming Club coach Ken Nixon.

This was also the year he became interested in singing and began covering songs by Justin Timberlake, Jason Mraz, and The Jackson 5. He also wrote some of his songs. The young man uploaded his covers to YouTube, and his talent was eventually recognized.

The young talent became prominent after appearing on The 7.30 Report, an Australian television program. In May 2010, he and Flo Rida released their debut single “iYiYi.” He relocated to Los Angeles after releasing his second single and music video, “Summertime,” and signed with Atlantic Records. He went on a few tours with other artists, and at the end of the year, he released his first EP, “4 U.”

Cody released his second EP, “Coast to Coast,” a year later. He also went on the “Waiting 4U” tour with Greyson Chance in 2011. Cody released his next album, “Free,” in 2015, his first independent work since leaving his label. He established his label, Coast House.

In 2017, the singer decided to form his band, Cody Simpson and the Tide. He sang and played guitar, while Shareef Addo and Adrian Cota played bass and drums. The band performed pop, rock, and blues and some surf-rock. They released one EP, “Wave One,” and toured California. They split up after nearly three years of being together.

Simpson resumed his solo career in 2019 by releasing a new song, “Golden Thing.” He also competed in, and eventually won, “The Masked Singer Australia.” In 2020, he intends to release a new album.
