 Daniel Johns was born in Newcastle, Australia, on April 22, 1979. He was raised by his parents, Julie Johns and Greg Johns, and grew up alongside his brother, Heath Johns.

Daniel Johns attended Newcastle High School during his formative years. He is Australian ethnically and was raised in the Christian faith.

Career

 Silverchair was formed in 1992 by high school friends Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies, and Chris Joannou. Originally called “The Innocent Criminals,” the band practiced extensively after school and won a TV competition 1994 with their song “Tomorrow.” 

This led to a record deal with Sony Music, and the band quickly released their debut album, “Frogstomp,” in 1995. Over the next seven years, they released three more successful studio albums: “Freak Show” (1997), “Neon Ballroom” (1999), and “Diorama” (2002).

After “Diorama,” the band took an extended hiatus. During this time, lead singer Daniel Johns worked on side projects like The Dissociatives with producer Paul Mac. 2007, Silverchair reunited to release the album “Young Modern,” followed by the “Across the Great Divide” tour with Powderfinger.

In 2011, Silverchair announced they were going into “indefinite hibernation,” citing a lack of creative spark among the three members. Johns has continued working on other musical projects since then.
