Early Life
Favi belongs to the Gen Z generation as he arrived into the world on the 3rd of May 2004, a few weeks to the start of the Fourth Republic and inauguration of Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
He was born into the Southern Nigerian family of Mr Nicholas Chukwudi Ikemefuna and Mrs Uche Emelda Ikemefuna. Days after his birth, in a joyous ceremony that was well attended by family, friends and well-wishers, he was named Favour Chinedu Chukwuedu Ikemefuna. His name, Chinedu means, “God Leads” in his native dialect.
An indigene of Delta State, in the South-South geopolitical zone, Favi hails from the Igbo tribe and is well versed in the culture and tradition of his people – as his parents made sure of this.
He was born and raised in the bubbling city of Lagos, where he spent his childhood and teenagehood in a household that extolled Godly living and hard work. Mr and Mrs Ikemefuna ensured that they imbibed good morals and a diligent spirit on their son in order to groom him into a responsible man.
The lessons learnt while growing up motivated Favi to pursue his dream for music later in life.
Education
As a resident of Lagos State, Favi attended top private schools in the Bariga area for his elementary and secondary school education.
This is because his parents worked hard in ensuring that he received a quality education. They also supported his dream of pursuing a university education.
After four years of study, he bagged a degree from the prestigious University Of Benin in Edo State.
Career
The early and mid-2000s saw Favi being exposed to the rich and evergrowing Nigerian music scene as he advanced from babyhood to adolescence. Living in Lagos meant that he got to taste different music genres ranging from Hip-hop, R&B, Soul, Highlife to Afrobeats.
From watching television to listening to the radio, his ears were always buzzing with the latest songs in the country and in the Western world. However, he developed a fondness for rap music, which he listened to more often. Thus, when trap music experienced a rise globally, he fell in love with the subgenre and submersed himself into the music type.
Unlike many of his friends, Favi wasn’t content with just listening to songs by other artists. His passion for music was so great that he became motivated to create his own songs. Armed with a notepad and pen, Favi spent a considerable chunk of his leisure time as a teenager writing rap songs. He first started by performing those songs in the safety of his room before he graduated to freestyling in the presence of his close friends and classmates, then performing at shows and concerts on his campus.
As an undergraduate, he frequented music studios around UNIBEN and quickly developed a reputation for being a good rapper. Fine-tuning his rapping and songwriting skills every day, Favi began to record his own songs. However, he wasn’t satisfied with the quality of his work as he felt he could do more, so he didn’t promote those singles.
Demanding more from himself, he finally recorded his first official single in the studio of A-list studio engineer, Spyritmyx. Focusing mainly on the UNIBEN audience, Favi promoted the song massively, and in no time, it was the favourite jam of undergrads on the campus. Thus, it wasn’t a surprise when the song extended out of the university community and hit the streets of Benin City, where he received positive reviews from residents of the city.
Collaborating with artists, The Pride Of The South and Huloo, Favi released the joint project, Family Business, in December 2021. Since its release, the music project, a 3-track EP, has been making waves across the country, especially in Lagos. Having received good airplay on leading radio stations, the project has expanded Favi‘s fanbase, as more people now appreciate his excellent artistic ability.
Due to the success of Family Business, Favi has received and honoured several invitations to perform at shows across the country. The EP has also set the pace for the young artiste to grow in the industry, as he has some projects in the pipeline set to be released soon.
Like every other artist, Favi has role models, and he has named the likes of J Hus, Lil Wayne, Ycee, Drake, Royce da 5’9, to be artists he looks up to.
