Jesse Spencer was born on February 12, 1979, in Melbourne, Australia. He is the son of Robyn Spencer and radiologist Rodney Spencer and has three siblings named Tarney Spencer, Luke Spencer, and Polly Spencer.

Spencer attended Canterbury Primary School, Malvern Central School, and the private Scotch College. While a student, he auditioned for the long-running soap opera Neighbours.

Jesse Spencer is best known for his roles in several major TV series. From 1994 to 2000, he starred as Billy Kennedy in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, reprising the role in 2005 for the show’s 20th anniversary episode. His character was the son of long-term Ramsay Street residents Dr Karl Kennedy and Susan Kennedy.

After Neighbours, Spencer co-starred in films such as Winning London with the Olsen Twins, Uptown Girls, and Swimming Upstream. From 2004 to 2012, he played intensive care specialist Dr. Robert Chase on the Fox medical drama House, becoming the second longest-serving member of the title character’s team.

From 2012 to 2021, Spencer starred as firefighter Matthew Casey in the NBC drama Chicago Fire. In 2022, it was confirmed that he would return to Neighbours as part of the series finale. In 2024, he is set to join the cast of the Disney Plus series Last Days of the Space Age.
