Justin Love was born on November 6, 1978, in San Francisco. He attended Washington High School and later Sacred Heart Cathedral High School, where he showcased his talent and was named MVP when the school won the West Catholic Athletic League Championship in 1995.
Love pursued his college education at Cañada College, where he became a National Junior College All-American in 1998.
He then transferred to Saint Louis University, leading the team to an NCAA Division I appearance and receiving a Conference USA First Team selection and Tournament MVP award in 2000.
Love graduated from Saint Louis University with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders and later earned a master’s in Education.
Personal Life
In 2006, Justin Love married Katy Walter, and the couple had three children together.
Career
Love became an unrestricted free agent after going undrafted in the 2000 NBA draft. He participated in the Phoenix Suns’ training camp and signed a multi-year agreement with the team on August 1, 2000. However, the Suns decided to waive him on October 25.
Love then played for the Kansas City Knights in the American Basketball Association’s inaugural season. He later accepted an offer to play in the LNB Pro A league with BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque but was released a month later due to difficulties adapting to European basketball.
Love had various stints with different teams, including the St. Louis SkyHawks of the USBL, Beijing Olympians in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), and BK Ventspils in Latvia. He spent the last six years of his professional career in Ukraine, playing for MBC Mykolaiv and BC Odesa.
Love displayed remarkable consistency throughout his career, maintaining high scoring averages, solid shooting percentages, and rebounding prowess.
Following his retirement as a player, Love transitioned into coaching. He was an assistant coach at Belleville High School-West in Illinois before becoming the boys’ basketball head coach at Mascoutah High School in 2017.
While at Mascoutah, Love led the team to a 55-42 record and secured the IHSA Class 3A regional championship in 2019. His coaching abilities were recognized, and he was named the Illinois Basketball Association’s Boys Coach of the Year.
