Rey then began singing in The Ritual, a power-pop band. She was later hired as a bandleader by a Dallas venue, Sambuca, and formed a Latin Jazz/R&B sextet called Miss Margo & The Lost Souls.
After three years of waiting, Rey’s debut album, Acaba, was finally released in 2000. The album received critical acclaim and was a commercial success, with one top-five and two top-twenty singles, according to Radio y Musica magazine.
