History
In 2011, Ed Service, originally from the Hutt Valley near Wellington, New Zealand, decided to move to Melbourne, Australia, to immerse himself in the vibrant dance music scene.
It was during a night out at a Melbourne nightclub that he crossed paths with local musician Jack Madin, who had a background in folk and rock music.
The two musicians quickly realized they shared a mutual passion for music and decided to join forces as an underground electronic music duo, calling themselves Shouse.
Career
Shouse’s career began in 2015 when they gathered in a warehouse in Brunswick for a recording session. It was during this session that they recorded the vocals for what would become their breakout single, “Love Tonight.”
The duo enlisted a group of amateur singers and some of Melbourne’s underground music stars to create a choir-like effect for the song.
Inspired by Victor Turner‘s concept of communitas, Shouse wanted to create a participatory musical experience that would bring people together.
Following the release of “Love Tonight,” Shouse gained some attention, but it wasn’t until 2021 that the song experienced a surge in popularity.
German electronic music producer Oliver Huntemann and Brazilian DJ and producer Vintage Culture released remixes of the track, which gained traction on TikTok.
This was followed by a remix from French DJ and record producer David Guetta, propelling the song to national charts across Europe and sending Shouse on their debut tour.
In February 2022, Shouse released “Won’t Forget You,” a heartfelt track recorded between trips to Europe and a live appearance at the Sydney Opera House on New Year’s Eve 2021.
The duo described the song as a tribute to friendship and love, emphasizing the importance of lasting connections.

Shouse has been recognized for their musical talents with nominations and awards. They were nominated for the Australian Independent Record Awards (AIR Awards), which celebrate the success of Australia’s independent music sector.
The duo has also been nominated for the Music Victoria Awards, an annual event that honors Victorian music.
