Till Lindemann was born on January 4, 1963, in Leipzig, East Germany. He was raised in Leipzig by his parents, Brigitte Hildegard “Gitta” Lindemann, a journalist for Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), and his father, poet Werner Lindemann.

Lindemann grew up in Wendisch-Rambow alongside his younger sister, Saskia Lindemann. At the age of 11, he went to a sports school at the sports club SC Empor Rostock and then attended a boarding school from 1977 to 1980.
