Early Life And Education
Tetiana Hryhorivna Liberman, better known by her stage name Tina Karol, was born on January 25, 1985, in Orotukan, Magadan Oblast, in the Soviet Union. She is the daughter of Grigoriy and Svetlana Liberman.
At the age of six, she moved with her family to Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. Karol has an older brother, Stanislav Liberman, who has become a lawyer in Kyiv and operates his own law firm.
Tina Karol graduated from a music school before further honing her talents at the Kyiv State Glier Higher Music College, where she studied vocal performance and mastered the piano.
Alongside her music education, Karol also pursued studies at the Kyiv National Aviation University, expanding her academic knowledge beyond the arts. Though Tina Karol identifies as Ukrainian, her religious beliefs remain unknown.
Career
Tina Karol, began her career as a teenager, performing for four years with a dance ensemble at the Kyiv branch of the Jewish Agency. Her repertoire included songs in Hebrew and Yiddish, and in 2000, she toured the United States with the ensemble, raising money for the Jewish Agency for Israel programs in Ukraine.
In 2006, she represented Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song “Show Me Your Love,” which finished in seventh place.
That same year, she released her debut album, Show Me Your Love, and later followed it with Nochenka, a collection with songs in both Russian and Ukrainian. Karol also began studying by correspondence at the National Aviation University in Kyiv and participated in the United Nations’ Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS campaign.
Karol’s success continued as she took on roles as a coach on The Voice of Ukraine (2013, 2015–2021) and The Voice Kids (2012, 2015, 2016). In 2017, she was named the “People’s Artist of Ukraine.” Her charity work also flourished, with her founding The Pole of Attraction foundation in 2014 to support cancer patients. In 2017, she became the face of Ukraine International Airlines.
Tina Karol has continued to release new music, including the album Intonation in 2018 and the English-language album Scandal in 2022.
