Wasiu Alabi Pasuma (born 27 November 1967) is a celebrated Nigerian personality with a large fan base across the globe. Commonly known as Oganla One, he is a Fuji musician, songwriter, and actor. 

He was raised in Kwara State, western Nigeria, where he spent his formative years.

Early Life & Education

Wasiu Alabi Pasuma Odetola was born in Mushin, Lagos State, on November 27, 1967. He was raised in Western Nigeria’s Kwara State. His father is named Charles Olumo, a Nigerian actor and filmmaker. He was born on November 27, 1967, and is currently 57 years old.

He enrolled at Muslim Mission Primary School in 1973, and six years later, to continue his senior studies, he transferred to Nigerian Model High SchoolWasiu Alabi Pasuma described his early years as a sorrowful living hell. He occasionally just had one meal per day. So that he wouldn’t go to bed hungry. His mother would then ask him to eat at night. 

His parents split up when he was nine years old. Since then, his mother has raised him by herself. Being a well-educated guy, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma‘s father encouraged him to pursue a career in medicine. He desired a good life for his children and knew that a career as a Fuji musician would not bring in a lot of money. His decision to become a Fuji musician was also rejected by his mother. 

But as soon as his mother understood that he had made his decision, she began to back him. Because she wanted to be happy for her son, his mother wanted him to succeed. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma had dreams of being successful. Before he made Mushin famous, it was considered to be a town of mischievous individuals.

He decided to leave the place and make a difference because he couldn’t start his profession elsewhere. 

Career

When he was a senior in high school, the musician began to sing. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and a few of his mates would slither away and sing while his friends played sports. He began creating music in 1984. 

The young musician took inspiration from K1 De Ultimate, who issued the well-received album Talazo 84. He began performing at the age of 17, but his debut album wasn’t finished until 1993. He began his employment with Eru Owa Records.

Wasiu Alabi Pasuma‘s debut album, Recognition, was recorded this way. Eru Owa Records named Recognition to draw attention to the emerging Fuji performer. After completing his secondary studies, the musician underwent a tremendous transformation. After the debut album was released, his reputation expanded inside and outside Mushin. 

His second album, Choices, was recorded the following year after the first album was published. The artist adopted this name because he realized that while many Fuji musicians were playing on the streets of Mushin, only he had been chosen to start playing there and go on to become well-known throughout Nigeria.

A subsequent, well-known Orobokibo album debuted the following year. The FMA Awards, it earned him the title of The Best Fuji Artiste. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, before the release of this album, was a typical Mushin-based Fuji musician. He was merely playing music at the time and had no idea what his future contained, but he had a constant ambition of becoming famous. 

The name of the third album is a slang term called Orobokibo, coined by one of his backup vocalists and used during practice. When the musician inquired about the word’s definition, the man said it was only a slang term he had heard somewhere. The slang term Orobo originally meant “fat woman.”

Wasiu Alabi Pasuma performed his debut concert at Benson in 1996 due to this album. He began his voyage in this manner. He began playing at Lekki Sunplash starting in 1997. He performed first before bigger names like Raskimono, Femi Kuti, and Orits Williki took the stage. He had a little window of time to finish his work and go. The public was waiting for major performers and didn’t want to listen to any new stars. 

Wasiu Alabi Pasuma‘s life drastically changed a year later when he became a well-known name in the music business. He won the Best Indigenous Artist of the Year award at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards in 2015, surpassing performers like Olamide, Phyno, and Flavor.

The musician had no idea how he would topple such musical heavyweights. Wasiu Alabi Pasuma received her first nomination, while K1 De Ultimate, who was still youthful and attractive, ruled the music scene. He was up for Best featured Non-Islamic Artiste in an Islamic Album in 2016. 

Saheed Osupa, Bola Abimbola, King Sunny Ade, and many other well-known Nigerian musicians are among the artists he has worked with. 

Wasiu Alabi Pasuma has recorded numerous Fuji music albums over his career and one hip-hop album. Despite specializing in a single musical genre, he has demonstrated adaptability and success. He occasionally produced one, two, or even three albums in a calendar year.

Additionally, he has appeared in Nigerian movies, including Iyanje and AlenibareWasiu Alabi Pasuma recently had a significant part in the ghetto-themed film Ogo Mushin. Famous actors, including Femi Adebayo, Adebayo Salami, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Mercy Aigbe, Tayo Odueke, Ibrahim Yekini, and Kelvin Ikeduba are among those who appear in the film. 



Awards

At the Nigeria Entertainment Awards on September 6, 2015, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma triumphed over competitors, including Olamide, Phyno, and Flavour, to win Best Indigenous Artist of the Year. 

He received honors from the African Prestigious Awards and Hollywood’s Best International Music Video 2021. (HAPAwards).

Personal Life

Alhaja Yetunde Babajide Odetola, an actress who was born in Ogun State, is married to the musician Wasiu Alabi Pasuma. The well-known Fuji musician is the father of Wasilat Odetola, Oyindamola Odetola, Sultan Odetola, Aaliyah Odetola, Opeyemi Odetola, Amirah Odetola, Rookebat Odetola, Wariz Odetola, Junior Odetola, and Farooq Odetola, as well as 10 other kids (8 girls and 2 boys). 

Wasilat Ajibola, his first child and attractive daughter, is known to have attended Lead City University in Ibadan, Oyo State. 

Barakat, Wasbar, Amirah, Opeyemi, Sultan, Waris, and Aliyah are his other kids. Two of the children’s names are unknown. He’s been rumored to have dated the likes of Ayo Adesanya, Jaiye Kuti, Iyabo Ojo, Alhaja Agbeke Babra, Alhaja Yetunde Babajide Odetola, Ronke Odusanya (Flakky Ididowo).
