Dia Handrich, now at the age of 44, was born on 9 December 1981 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. Her father, Frank Handrich, was a German graphic and industrial fair designer, architect, artist, and interior designer based in Munich.

Her mother, Deepa Mirza, is an Indian interior designer and landscaper. Dia‘s parents separated when she was six years old, and her father passed away when she was nine.

Subsequently, her mother married Ahmed Mirza, a Dakhini Muslim; Dia adopted his surname, becoming Dia Mirza. Despite her stepfather’s Muslim faith, Dia practices Hinduism.

Dia attended Vidyaranya High School and Nasr School in Hyderabad. She later enrolled at Stanley Girls Junior College, followed by Ambedkar Open University in Hyderabad, where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree.
