Early Life And Education

Frank H. McCourt Jr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 14, 1953, to Malachy Gerald McCourt Sr. and Angela Sheehan. He grew up alongside his four siblings: Malachy Jr., Michael, Alphonsus, and twins Oliver and Eugene, who tragically passed away in childhood.

McCourt attended New York University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English Education in 1957. He used benefits from the G.I. Bill to fund his studies.

He furthered his education with a master’s degree from Brooklyn College in 1967 and spent time at Trinity College in Dublin, although he did not complete his Ph.D. McCourt is of Irish descent and practices Roman Catholicism.

Frank H. McCourt Jr. began his career in real estate, founding The McCourt Company in 1977. Specializing in large-scale development projects, his company made significant contributions to the Boston area and other major U.S. cities.



His early real estate ventures set the stage for a successful and diversified career, ultimately leading him to acquire the Los Angeles Dodgers for $430 million in 2004.

During his ownership, McCourt spearheaded significant renovations to Dodger Stadium and oversaw the construction of a new spring training facility. Under his leadership, the team experienced notable postseason appearances, culminating in a record-breaking franchise sale for $2.15 billion in 2012.

After selling the Dodgers, McCourt established McCourt Global, focusing on sports, media, and real estate investments. One of the company’s key initiatives was acquiring a 50% stake in the Global Champions Tour, an elite international show-jumping series.
