Early Life
Lucky Gumbi was born in 1981. He was born and raised in the Kwazulu-Natal region of South Africa.
He grew up in Mtubatuba town located North of Kwazulu-Natal. He lost his father at an early age and lived in penury with his family. In an interview, he stated that his mother did her utmost best and struggled to take care of him and his siblings.
He stated in the same interview that there were days (too numerous to count) the whole family left behind by his father went to bed on empty stomachs. As a result of this hardship, his education was cut short.
His experience was his greatest motivation to defeat poverty and become rich and as a result, took and made several decisions that set him apart from others in the same situation.
Career
Lucky Gumbi is a businessman. Most of his business activities involve the mining industry and he owns several mines across South Africa. Alongside mining, the businessman deals with charcoal transportation across South Africa and he is involved in the construction business.
He hit pay dirt after having moderate success in business and this turned his business around for the best.
Between 2017 and 2019, several South African filmmakers contacted him to create a reality show based on his life but he declined as he is a very private individual.
Finally, he gave in when he realized that he could inspire numerous South Africans through the show. The show was titled, The Gumbis and it is currently on air with a large number of viewers.
Personal Life
Lucky Gumbi has a reserved personality. He treats his workers well and unlike other mine owners in South Africa, the miners working under him have never for once gone on a strike as a result of poor treatment. This goes to show that he cares genuinely for his workers and treats them properly.
Another aspect of his personal life is his marriage. He is a polygamist and this is partly responsible for his national fame. Twitter and Instagram networks were buzzing around the time that he paid a large sum of money for his second wife’s bridal shower.
The sum was revealed to be a whopping amount of $200,000. He got married to his second wife Nombuso Malinga Gumbi who was aged 22 at the time of the wedding. The wedding cost $3.5 million and it was aired on his reality television show, The Gumbis.
