Sandile is of African descent and follows the Christian faith. He attended Vukuzakhe High School and later went on to complete his post-matric studies at Hilton College in 1984.

From 1989 to 1994, he worked for reputable companies such as Richards Bay Minerals (RBM), Engen Refinery, National Sorghum Breweries (NSB), and South African Breweries (SAB).
