Damodharan K., also known as Chef Damu, is a well-known Indian celebrity chef.

On several Tamil language television channels, he has hosted multiple cooking shows and reality cooking competitions, most notably as a judge on Cooku with Comali on Star Vijay.

In 2010, he set a Guinness World Record for the longest single-person cooking marathon.

He was also the first Indian chef to get a Ph.D. in Hotel Management and Catering Technology from the University of Madras in 2004. In addition, he has appeared in a few Tamil films.

Early Life

Dr.K Dhamodaran is Chef Dhamu’s real name. He was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on September 3, 1954. His parents’ names remained unknown.

His wife’s name is Usha Dhamu, and he wedded her. Akshaya is the name of the girl born to this couple.

He finished his schooling and advanced studies in Chennai and worked as a professor.

Career

He had little interest in academics. As a result, he decided to pursue a master’s degree in Hotel Administration and Management.

He later worked as a cook at Taj Coromandel. He initially experienced challenges. However, he becomes a competent chef at Mumbai’s Taj Coromandel.

He subsequently established a Guinness World Record for Longest Cooking by cooking for around 25 hours and completing 617+ dishes. He is the only chef with a Ph.D. in the field of catering.

Cook With Dhamu, a program on Jaya TV, served as his television debut. He eventually made his acting debut in Kollywood with the movie Kallapadam, and he later had a little part in Ulkuthu.

In seasons 1-3 of Cooku With Comaali, he appeared as one of the judges alongside Venkatesh Bhat. This show was a smashing success.

Following this program, he starred in the film Server Sundaram, where Santhanam played the lead role. This movie has yet to be released. He has appeared in the web series Kalyanam Conditions Apply.

Chef Dhamu was a judge on Cooku With Comaali’s first season as a result of the popularity of this show. He also appeared in Season 2 of the show.

This show was also named Best Television Show at the Behindwoods Television Awards. He is now one of the judges on Cooku With Comaali’s third season.

Damu and Venkatesh Bhat earned an award for ‘Best Jodi Non-Fiction’ at the Vijay Television Awards 2022 for their appearance in Cook with Comali.
