 Musa Hassan was born on September 13, 1951, in Malaysia. He was raised by his parents. Hassan Azhariand is his father’s name, while details about his mother are not publicly disclosed. Hassan grew up with his two brothers, Fuad Hassan and Jalaluddin Hassan.

After his upbringing in Malaysia, Musa attended the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he further developed his academic and personal pursuits. His ethnicity is Malaysian, and his religious affiliation is Islam.

Career

Musa Hassan took over the position of Inspector-General of Police from Mohd Bakri Omar in September 2006, having previously served as Deputy Inspector-General under him. Soon after his appointment, Hassan was investigated for allegations of corruption regarding the release of three members of illegal betting syndicates.

However, due to a lack of evidence, the Attorney-General ordered the Anti-Corruption Agency to close the investigations in July 2007. Hassan was granted a two-year term extension in September 2007 despite reaching the mandatory retirement age.

In March 2010, the Home Minister announced that the government would find a replacement for Hassan as Inspector-General of Police. On September 13, 2010, Hassan resigned after serving more than three years, and his deputy Tan Sri Ismail Omar was promoted to the new Position. 

After his retirement, Hassan continued to be active, accepting speaking invitations to discuss topics related to crime trends and integrity in the police force. From late 2021 to mid-2022, he was involved with an organization opposing human trafficking and scam syndicates.
