She was raised by her parents, Jeanette Atkins and Edward Atkins, alongside her two siblings Steven Atkins and Michael Atkins. Susan Atkins was a convicted murderer and a member of Charles Manson’s infamous “Family” in the late 1960s. Along with other followers of Manson, Atkins committed a series of brutal murders in California over five weeks. She was known by several aliases such as Sadie, Sadie Glutz, Sadie Mae Glutz, or Sexy Sadie within the Manson family. Atkins was found guilty of participating in eight of the murders, including the notorious Tate murders. Originally sentenced to death, her sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment. The following day, Atkins returned to the house with two other Family members and proceeded to torture Hinman for three days, ultimately killing him. This brutal and senseless murder was just one of many that would be committed by Manson and his followers in the summer of 1969, ultimately leading to their arrest and conviction for the infamous Tate-LaBianca murders.
